NEWS FROM THE Y

LEAP INTO SPRING

Spring Session 1 begins February 19 at the Michiana Family YMCA, and that means the time to register is now.

Wiggles ‘n Giggles for 2-year olds, along with Tumbling or Creative Movement dance for 3-5 year olds is offered one day a week through April 14 (except Spring Break). Beginner Jazz and Hip Hop is open to ages 6-19 on Saturday mornings. The fees begin at $30-$63, depending on the class.

Youth sports programs beginning in February include judo and basketball class. Swim lessons are offered year-round, with new sessions beginning February 21. Prices range from $26-$62 for the session.

The Y philosophy of youth sports is safety first, emphasizing fair play through positive competition, family involvement, and, most importantly, every kid has fun playing. Membership at the Y is not required for participation, but members do save on the class fees.

The Y offers financial assistance based on the individual needs of the family. Please contact the Y for specific qualifications.

“At the Y, we believe that kids and families should have the opportunity to make healthy choices and we have access to resources that help them,” says Karin Gilbert, Director of Youth Development at the Michiana Family YMCA.

To educate and enrich the community, the Y offers safety training courses, including American Red Cross/American Heart Association-certified CPR/AED training several times in the Spring. Lifeguard training and Water Safety Instructor training is offered along with First Aid and Oxygen Management classes. Days and times vary. Fees include ARC books.

Registration is ongoing at the Michiana Family YMCA, located at 1201 Northside Boulevard in South Bend. For current members, registration can be completed online at www.michianaymca.org.

The Y is committed to providing programs that build a healthy spirit, mind and body for all. We make every effort to ensure that no one is turned away due to inability to pay.
